National Academy Manager

A fantastic opportunity exists to join one of Australia’s premier sporting bodies. Tennis Australia (TA) is the national governing body for the sport of Tennis in Australia and is responsible for helping grow and promote the sport from grassroots to elite level. TA owns and stages the Australian Open (AO) – one of the world’s biggest annual sporting events and one of the four Grand Slams.

Based at Tennis West, one of TA’s member associations, and reporting to the National Coach (Perth) , this position will primarily be responsible for the improvement and development of the National Academy (NA) in fulfilling the potential of every full and partial scholarship holder in the National Academy (WA). Importantly, this position will also assess, evaluate and continually monitor the NA operations.

Other key responsibilities include:
Coach in the NA program
Developing, coordinate and oversee training at the NA Perth
Working closely with the National Coach (WA) in all facets of the management of the NA
Communicating regularly with the TA Athlete Development department to meet all national guidelines and objectives
Organising NA Training Camps
Coordinating sport science and sport medicine providers
Promoting TA Coach education and membership
Administering and managing all areas of the talent search program including the management and delivery of talent search days, talent search follow-up and talent scouting
Implementing and coordinating the parent, athlete and coach education programs
Communicating organisational initiatives and programs to key TA staff
Other duties as required by the Tennis West Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coach

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge and skills:
Proven ability to develop and implement a high performance tennis program for developmental and elite tennis athletes
Extensive experience coaching tennis at an elite national or international level with a successful track record
Proven knowledge of technique and on-court decision making strategies
Past playing experience at the elite international level (preferred)
Tennis coaching experience at an elite level.
Strong administration skills, including computer literacy, budgeting, record keeping and report writing.

Candidates who have also attained the following will be highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in Business/Sports Science/Teaching/Physical education/Sport management or related fields
Elite Coaching qualification teamed with a Tennis Australia Coaching Qualification


In addition to the above, we are looking for candidates with: -
An ability to relate professionally and successfully to all levels of staff and players
The skills to motivate and build strong working relationships and to communicate well in individual and group environments.
Strong presentation and communication skills in public speaking situations.
An ability to maintain and project a positive attitude at all times
A well organised and methodical work approach with the ability to plan and organise at a high level.
Creative and inspiring attributes
Ability to effectively and efficiently manage and organise staff
Flexibility regarding schedules, work schedules and training hours
A high level of personal fitness
